Anotation
The origins of the genre of laus urbis (laudatio urbis, encomium urbis), i.e. \\\"praise of the city\\\", go back to antiquity, and its literary form was already taking shape in ancient rhetorical treatises. The genre also gained popularity among the humanists of the early modern period, often as a way of gaining the support of the urban classes, an expression of gratitude, or a poem to order. As a hybrid genre, it can take the form of literary descriptions or be part of other literary formations. In the Neo-Latin literature of Slovak provenance, the production bearing the features of laus urbis also occurs, although to a lesser extent due to the poorly developed urban class. Since this genre as such has not yet been the subject of research in Slovak literary scholarship, the project aims to map the Neo-Latin literary production of this kind by authors of Slovak origin as well as by authors with Slovak connections, to analyse it and to make it available to the professional and wider public through translations.
