Anotation
The project is focused on molecular-genetic characterization of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in food animals, livestock and free living animals in Slovakia. HEV is classified as a food-borne pathogen and therefore the attention will be focused on its occurrence in food animals that are part of a human food chain. The zoonotic nature of several viral genotypes, such as HEV-3 and HEV-4, is a reason for observation of risk assessment for the human population. By studying the genetic variability of the virus, we will extend the knowledge of HEV circulating in Slovakia, which is also absent in the latest ECDC report, where sporadic occurrence in Slovakia was reported as the presence of specific antibodies in humans.
